Dr. Cathy Wittman, Therapeutic Optometrist, Optometric Glaucoma Specialist, Diplomate, American Board of Optometry has been a Lubbock eye doctor on the South Plains providing thorough eye exams since 1998. Her career in eye care began over 25 years ago when she began working as an optometric assistant while attending Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas where she received her undergraduate degree in Biology. She went on to receive her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry. She completed externships at Omni Eye Specialists, a group ophthalmology practice in Baltimore, Maryland, and in the ophthalmology department at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas.
After working for nine years in private practice, Dr. Wittman took a faculty position in the Texas Tech Department of Ophthalmology where she served as an attending for residents, lectured, performed comprehensive eye care, served as the low vision specialist, and where she fit specialty contact lenses on diseased corneas and on infants who had cataract surgery. After over four years on faculty, Dr. Wittman went back into private practice and began Wittman Vision in 2012, and she moved into her new building at the end of April 2014.
Dr. Wittman teaches a graduate level class in Texas Tech’s College of Education, Department of Educational Psychology and Leadership called Anatomy and Functions of the Visual System. Her students are future TVIs (teachers of the visually impaired) and O&Ms (orientation and mobility specialists), and she serves on the Board of Directors for the Sowell Center.
Greg Wittman, Dr. Wittman’s husband of nineteen years, received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management Information Systems from Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University in 2002. They have three school aged sons and enjoy spending time together as a family.
